The Lonely Island is blowing UP!

The Lonely Island is a group of filmmakers started in 2001, Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone. They are most famous for their Digital Shorts on Saturday Night Live including "Lazy Sunday", "Dick in a Box", and "Jizz in my Pants" (below). In August of 2007 the group premiered their first feature film, Hot Rod where Any Samberg is a armature stunt man trying to get money for his dads heart transplant so Andy can fight his (healthy) dad to show him that he is a real man. funny plot.

Check out their website at TheLonelyIsland.com

Just two days ago this video was under 500,000 views on youtube, now its almost at 3 million, WOW.
This will be a single from The Lonely Island's debut album "INCREDIBAD" which will be in stores 02/10/2009.
This video was directed by one of the members Akiva Schaffer, who is the guy at the grocery store. The video features guest appearances by Molly Sims, Jamie Lynn Sigler, and Justin Timberlake (bring it on to omeletville!)

Do you know about headphone microphones?

So get this, I learned the other day that all headphones have a microphone inside. The left ear is also a microphone. Test it out, plug your headphones into the mic jack and record while yelling into the left ear. The right ear doesn't do anything, but the left does. It doesn't work all that great, but it still works. Interesting ain't it. Now someone tell me why that is.

This is a 60 second film I made for my Basic Design Class. We had to create a short film around our running theme for the quarter, mine was comedy.
I would like to thank my actors Justin and Mike, I know the shoot ran late and was not very organized but you stuck with me, thanks. I would also like to give a big shout out to Kelli our lovely audio/light tech, thanks for hanging out on such short notice.

RIP Edward McMichael aka "Tuba man"

I just learned that Tuba Man (Edward McMichael) from Seattle died the other day. It said that he died days after being kicked in the face by a group of teens. If you did not know Tuba man, he was known for hanging outside Quest and Safeco field jamming out on his tuba. Above is a video that I had on my phone of Tuba Man playing "My Sharona" outside of a Foo Fighters concert at the Key Arena. I wish it was a better demonstration of his talents, but this is all I have. He was a good man. I have lost faith in this world knowing that there are people that can do such a horrible thing to such a giving person. He didn't do anything wrong, just gave the beautiful gift of song. RIP your presence will always be remembered in my mind.
HERE is the story in Seattle Times

Human DeEvolution: top 5 TV shows

Wow TV has gone down the shitter, and here is my top 5 examples of humans DeEvolving via Television shows.

5. Time Warp/Destroyed in Seconds/ Smash Lab (Discovery channel) - I don't know how Discovery channel has done this, but they have seemed to find a loop hole by taking the same concept and making 3 shows out of it. You literally shut your brain off and stare at the tv mubling "oh that was cool....wow did you see that thing blow up....whoa look at that thing blow up... jeez that thing sure did blow up.... wheres my dad-gum cheetos". I just want to say, wtf Discovery, I use to hate you because you made me smatter, now I just hate you.
4. Hole in the wall (FOX) - This show was based of the Japanese tv show Human Tetris which became popular by youtube. Its hard to explain without seeing it, but basically a wall with funny shapes cut out of it moves towards a person(s) and they have to make it through the cutouts or they will be pushed into water (or if I was the producer the water would be replaced with dirty siringes, like in saw 2, ausome!) So not only did Fox rip off another tv show, they ripped of a completly fucking retarded ass tv show, from japan, what kind of BS is that Amurhica!
3. Human wreaking ball (G4) - This show features two meatheads breakin shit, need I say more?
2. Wipeout (ABC) - This show features people getting breaked by shit. People try to run through obstacle courses in the fastest times. Just a bunch of adverage joes getting clobbered over and over, one after another. It takes less than the average attention span before you watch Kathy form Hawaii torque her back in ways you never thought possible.
1. Anything on CMT other than the music - This is the mother load of fu@king dumb shit on television. Hulk Hogan's Celebrity Championship Wrestling, Country Fried Planet, Trick My Trucker, I Want to Look Like a High School Cheerleader Again, My Big Redneck Wedding, Redneck Dreams, AND THE LIST GOES ON! I am not making this up people. Hey CMT, stick to the music cuz aint nobuddy want to watch what a redneck does on his spare time.

Its sad to say, but its not going to be long till TV is like this

This clip is taken from the movie Idiocracy, which was written and directed by Mike Judge (who also made King of the Hill and Office Space). The movie was ok but worth the watch just because it has a great depiction of how humans have deevolved in the future. Its like the H.G. Well's Time machine of today.

And that is it. Hope you liked my list, and may god help us all... find our remotes.

New Art: New Rambling: Comedy of Generation Y

It is about new comedy coming out, or about how comedy has evolved due to generation Y. I've been watching and enjoying how comedy has been evolving. I read Steve Martin's book 'Born Standing Up'. He talks about how stand up was just being born, there were no stand up venues, pretty much if you wanted to have a job in the comedy business it was through tv or film. Through his life, stand up became more main stream and he is now known for being one of the god fathers of stand up. He is also known for his sketch comedy on Saturday Night Live which the show has given the spot light to many talented comedians. So what happened was that he was Talented + Saturday Night Live (large media) = Seen by millions.
Which brings me to my point, in the present because of the boom/drop of price of technology anyone can be Seen by millions. You don't need to move to hollywood, take acting lessons, or brown nose "the man" or any man. All you need is a camera and a solid internet connection which is becoming insanely easy to find. I love how comedians of my age are using this tool, such as Nick Swardson (my hero). He is mostly known for his stand up, but on the side hes has made some great short films with some of his friends just for the hell of it. Remember when you did that when you were a kid? But see, the only difference from then an now is the audience. When you made a short film (or made anything) the only audience you had where the people around you. Now it is anyone, virtually anyone you will ever meet ever(!) could potentially see your work.
So this evolution has re-energized me. Im going to keep doing my thang and stop worrying about "getting out there", I mean I do realize that at some point I do need to interact with humans in my career, but at least I don't need to force it. The internet has become a great tool to sift out all the bullshit of finding someone to notice you, and in turn lets you focus more on your work. And I know on the flip side to all of this there will be millions of other people slapping their work (or garbage) all over internet, and I know that sounds intimidating but all you have to do is just say 'fuck em', and make better stuff, and more of it. simple as that.

Born Standing Up

If you have time, check out the book 'Born Standing Up' by Steve Martin. Its a great autobiography. He has a great vocabulary that paints a vivid image in your mind. Its funny and inspiring. I also suggest listening to the audio book rather than reading it because if you get it off audible.com or itunes Steve Martin narrates it! What I did is when I had to drive from eugene OR to enumclaw WA, i just put it on my ipod and listened to it in one sitting. Audio books ardashit

Ive been slaving over a witting a script and drawing storyboards for this competition. If anyone reads my blog be sure to support me in this comp. I would surely love to win. I think its got potential. Im not really a big fan of online video competitions because sometimes its not based on how good your video actually is, its just based on how many people you can get to vote for you. But practice is good, I flexed my creativity muscle for this one, hope it stacks up. wish me luck.

Mos Def - Rock the Bells

The show featured, LITTLE BROTHER. BLUE SCHOLARS. Murs. Supernatural. MOS DEF. De la soul. Nas. A TRIBE CALLED QUEST, & more. My brother hooked me up with $20 tickets, only 20 to see such a great line up, you can't beat that! The weather was nice and hot during the day and cool enough for the headliners at night. It would've been nice to see a better turnout of people, but I guess that also means I get closer to the stage!
Being able to camp next to the concert is also the best thing about going to the Gorge. (see aftermath photo above). We stayed up late, banged some tunes out, met some cool people, and passed out early in the next morning.

top 10 of mondays bumbershoot 2008

Photo Christopher Nelson

Bubmbershoot was spectacular! The festival is a big saturated ball of good times pinned underneath the grand needle of space. Almost too much to take while trying to admire some of the worlds best art forms. From music, to graphic design, to food, to comedy, to short films, bumbershoot has it all, there is not another thing I could have asked for. You just can't beat the location/atmosphere.
Now my top ten of my experiance.

10. Humans - Its just cool to know how much the human race has evolved to bring on an event like that. Everything from the architecture to the events, just blows my mind. Pat yourself on the back human race, you deserve it!
9. Food/smell of it
8. People watching - people dancing, laughing, talking, looking good, looking weird, and especially being inebriated.
7. The vert ramp - Seeing any extreme sport just tickles my fancy.
6. Some unknown band that played - Two guys, one on drums, and the other played slide guitar, bongos i think, 3 didgeridoos, and sang.
5. Flatstock - The art gallery of band posters/t-shirts. I wanted it all. Very inspiring work.
4. Sparks at Death cab for cutie - Death cab rocked the shit as always. Love their new album, especially Grapevine Fires, that song gets me every time. Anyways, they put on a basic show effects wise (lights, smoke) until the last song of their set. Right when they started to sing the chorus a mondo 30 ft. wall of sparks came pouring down behind them for like 30 seconds, then the rest of the song the smoke washed over the crowd. Great way to end the set, plus it smelled like 4th of july!
3. Myspace show - It is a comedy show based on people myspace's. There are 6 comedians, one of them picks a person from the audience that they think will have and interesting myspace, brings them onstage and views their myspace on a huge screen in front of the audience and interviews them. Then after they almost humiliate the person they let him go back to his seat and all the comedians (who haven't been talking to each other) do a comedy improv sketch about funny things about the person. fucking genius. I haven't seen something that funny in awhile. Makes me want to do improv.
2. Night life- After the sun sets the night lights up. The arches of the pacific science center are amazing! Sidewalks, space needle, the fountain, and stages were all lite up. Even though the vendors and the beer gardens shut down it was great to walk around in the gorgeous ambiance.
1. Friends - The experience just wouldn't be the same if you didn't have someone to share it with. This year I went with my older brother, met a friend there, and also met some strangers. Thanks for goin!
