My Sick Tech Deck Film | Made at 3am
The video was shot and edited on my cell phone (sorry for the quality, but it is from my cell phone).
In 6th grade (2000ish) I loved making tech deck ramps, more than actually 'tech decking', and last night I found my old tech deck park. So I grabbed some cardboard and tape and got back to my roots. Sometimes you have to be a kid. I sat in my room with a bag of chex mix and some music and "skated" all night.

Shorecrest vs Shorewood | 2 WA highschools lip-dub challenge
Two Shoreline, Washington high schools have challenged each other to a music video lip-dub. The one on top was created first. Note that the bottom video was shot backwards, in one take!
They both are well done. It's really cool that they used the whole school in both the videos, and I also really like how the camera traveled around campus. My favorite part is the dude on top of the lockers at 1:32 in the top video, the guy must be the coolest kid on campus.
My high school would never do something this cool.

"5 Links: A film corpse" | A film I made with 5 other directors
This is a film I made with 5 other directors (Zach Yarrington, Angelica Hodgetts, Ben Olsen, Megan Schulz). We created this film for a class at the University of Oregon.
The film was inspired by the Surrealist game called "Exquisite Corpse". (it has nothing to do with an actual corpse). Basically the exquisite corpse is a game made of a few rules to help spawn creative output. The rules we followed in making this film were:
-Each director has (roughly) a 2 minute segment in the film.
-The directors cannot share any information about their segment with the other directors.
-The director and the succeeding director have to share a transition scene between each others segments to keep the story going. The two directors can only share information needed to continue plot, such as actors, location, prop, etc.
Here is the times of each director:
Ben Olsen (start - 4:17)
Angelica Hodgetts (4:17 - 6:30)
Zach Yarrington (6:30 - 10:00)
Bryson Michael (10:00 - 13:00)
Megan Schulz (13:00 - End)
Click on the picture below to read a short .pdf I wrote about the making of the video.

OK Go "WTF?"
The visuals in this are nuts, and it was shot in one take. Reminds me when a screen in Windows freezes and you can make the same effect.
I love how Ok Go spends so much time rehearsing for their music videos.

Beautiful Losers | Can't wait for this to come to DVD
"BEAUTIFUL LOSERS celebrates the spirit behind one of the most influential cultural moments of a generation
In the early 1990's a loose-knit group of likeminded outsiders found common ground at a little NYC storefront gallery. Rooted in the DIY (do-it-yourself) subcultures of skateboarding, surf, punk, hip hop & graffiti, they made art that reflected the lifestyles they led. Developing their craft with almost no influence from the "establishment" art world, this group, and the subcultures they sprang from, have now become a movement that has been transforming pop culture.
Starring a selection of artists who are considered leaders within this culture, Beautiful Losers focuses on the telling of personal stories. It speaks to themes of what happens when the outside becomes "in" as it explores the creative ethos connecting these artists and today's youth."

Supwitchugirl "I Smell Roses"
"I Smell Roses" is made by Supwitchugirl, University of Oregon students Brian McAndrew, Jamie Slade and Michael Bishop. The video has become very popular around campus and has even gained popularity with some media outlets such as KVAL News and The Dan Patrick Show on ESPN radio (click the link to hear their comments on the video) . BUT, the video has been stirring up some controversy because of the unauthorized use of the Duck mascot. The U of O Duck is copyrighted by Disney, and Supwitchugirl did not get proper licencing to use it (I don't even know how they got a hold of the costume).
Personally I think this video is great. The video has great comedy and good ol' fashion school pride. Supwitchugirl is like The Lonely Island of University of Oregon. Im pretty sure they are going to release an album, but I am not 100% sure, but if they do I will let you know.
You can download the MP3 FREE HERE
More of Supwitchugirl videos are on Youtube HERE.

Jung von Matt / Neckar | 200 fly banners
Tiny banners tied to 200 flys and sent out at the Frankfurt Book Fair.
I remember doing this as a kid. Bee-on-a-string was our version, but using bees probably would have had an adverse effect on the crowd.

"Biological Treasures"
This is one of my new favorite sketches from SNL, mostly because of Jason Sudeikis in the back (the guy in the red track suit and gold donkey rope). I want to learn all of his dance moves.

10/GUI | 10 finger computer touch interface
As I was watching the video I was doing the finger gestures and if feels natural. This is great idea because lets be honest, the mouse is old. We have seen user interfaces like this in sci-fi movies (Minority Report) but the years pass and still there are no upgrades. Anything that helps speed up productivity is worth $$$ (time=$$$) especially in the Digital Arts field. Hot-keys and mouse gestures help, but this technology would make such a bigger impact on productivity.
I don't want to be the stereotypical next generation by saying this but, I WANT IT NOW!

Google Wave | This is so cool! Communicate and work in a group online in real-time
This is a long demo video but the potential for this application is going to be insane! It would be a very useful tool for class. You could use it to collaboratively take notes for study groups, create mind-maps in a group, sharing pictures with each other, and MORE.
"What is a wave?
A wave is equal parts conversation and document.People can communicate and work together with richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more.
A wave is shared. Any participant can reply anywhere in the message, edit the content and add participants at any point in the process. Then playback lets anyone rewind the wave to see who said what and when.
A wave is live. With live transmission as you type, participants on a wave can have faster conversations, see edits and interact with extensions in real-time."

Getting a cold? Make ginger tea!
Ginger tea is very simple to make. This is my first time making it.
Items:
Ginger root (you can find it at any grocery store)
Honey (optional if you want, but it makes it taste great)
Ginger root (you can find it at any grocery store)
Honey (optional if you want, but it makes it taste great)
Steps:
Hack off a chunk from the root. For one cup you will only need a chunk about half the size of your thumb.
Remove the peel

Cut into thin slices. The thinner the better because the ginger is pretty dense and thin slices can absorb water better.
Boil water
Put the slices into a cup and pour the boiling water over top. The ginger will float and settle to the bottom. Add some honey and you are done. Easy!
If you have a cold make sure to drink plenty of fluids. Water and juices are best. Stay away from drinks that will dehydrate you. You should drink 8 glasses a day regularly, so if you have a cold you should double that amount. Don't forget about nutritious food, plenty of sleep, yadda yadda, but why am I telling you this, you already know the drill.

DIY Project and eating good food
The DIY project was to build Cold Frames for Fall gardening. We built them for an assignment in my class called 'Your Lifestyle Your Design' with professor John Park at the University of Oregon.
We started the day by going to Bring Recycle in Eugene to pick up some recycled materials to build an inexpensive cold frame.

DIY SUCCESS!

Saturday Night Live | Conspiracy Theory Rock!
conspiracy theory rock
This is a cartoon that aired once on Saturday Nigh Live then was banned by NBC. I wonder why? Also, If you want to learn more about the major companies controlling our media and pop culture check out the documentary by Frontline Merchants of Cool. The documentary is a little dated but the message is still very strong. I was shocked after watching it, the media is a sick machine.

Here is my Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Intern Contest submission
A few weeks ago Late Night with Jimmy Fallon was having an intern contest for college students. Above is my submission. We had to make a 2 minute video saying why we should be an intern for the show and if we were picked we would get to document our college life for the show from our college campus. (more details) Pretty sweet!
but... they picked the winner for the intern contest last Friday and I did not make it, bummer, but I had a fun time making this video and people seem to enjoy it so it wasn't a complete loss.

Check out this crazy bug I found at work

Someone please tell me what this thing is?
Sorry about the picture quality I had to zoom in on my camera phone to get a decent picture, but the thing was about 3 inches long with its tail (or stinger?!) and yellow and black like a wasp. Its wings had a slight purple tint to them. Very pretty bug.

NICOTINEGREEN | Cigarettes of the future

A company based out of Seattle makes electronic cigarettes that have no tar, no harmful carcinogens, don't burn, and do not cause first or second hand smoke!
How the cigarette works: a microcomputer inside scenes when you inhale and starts an atomizer that instantly vaporizes liquid nicotine which gets inhaled as a vapor. They also have nicotine free and a variety of flavors.
Personally I think they should work on the design of the cigarettes because people might think you are smoking a crack pipe.
